The JTED @ Mountain View Culinary Arts facility will host celebrity chef Jon Ashton and the Chopped Teachers cooking competition July 13, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., at 3901 W. Linda Vista Blvd.
The contest is part of Arizona’s Association for Career and Technical Education annual conference, July 12-17, in Tucson. Ashton will be the main judge rating statewide Career and Technical Education culinary instructors on taste and presentation. Students will also be on-hand for prep work.
The first-time event showcases JTED @ Mountain View’s top-notch industrial kitchen, which hosts numerous contests including Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Careers through Culinary Arts Program competitions. It also gives teachers a taste of what their students go through when competing.
Ashton is a National Television Food Contributor, The Daily Buzz food correspondent, Contributing Editor of Parade and Dash magazines, and Dash Around the Table Cook Show Tour host.
The competition is sponsored by Chicken of the Sea and The Dairy Council of Arizona. Both groups are supplying ingredients for the event. Chicken of the Sea is also providing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with seafood products to be used in their culinary programs.
The 1st round of cooking begins at 9 a.m.; with the final round starting at 2 p.m. Winners will be announced around 4 p.m.
