EVIT Students Capture 13 Medals at Statewide FCCLA Competition

Students from the East Valley Institute of Technology participated in the Arizona Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) conference March 29-31 in Tucson. As part of the conference, students participated in various “STAR Events” that rated their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. Gold medalists at the state level will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete for national titles July 8-12 at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference.
EVIT students receiving medals at Arizona FCCLA include:
- Gold medals to Interior Design students Lauren McEwen (Desert Ridge) and Jessica White (Highland)
- Gold medals to Early Childhood Education students Cynthia Peterson (Gilbert) and Rachel Schmitzer (Red Mountain) for “Creativity Crisis,” a fundraising service project for making over 60 creativity kits for the children of the Child Crisis Emergency Center
- Gold medals to Early Childhood Education students Stephanie Guillen (Career Success High School), David Koyabe (Dobson) and Diana Martinez (Westwood) for “Tiny Tots,” a fundraising service project for the infants and toddlers of the Child Crisis Emergency Center
- Silver medal to Interior Design student Aubryn Bittorf (Williamsfield)
- Silver medal to Education Professions student Anthony Valencia (Marcos de Niza) for “Teen Traffic Safety Day,” a service project in conjunction with the Mesa Police DUI Task Force promoting safer driving for teens
- Silver medal to Early Childhood Education student Emily Greer (Queen Creek) for her fundraising project, “Don’t Shake Me, You’ll Break Me,” a service project creating awareness of the dangers in shaking crying babies
- Silver medals to Early Childhood Education students Kaileigh Story (Highland) and Jayme Taylor (Higley) for “A Christmas Come True,” an angel tree project providing a Christmas celebration for the neediest children of the on-site Head Start program
- Bronze medal to Interior Design students Val Yepiz (Highland) and Amber Lusk (Sequoia)
