Congrats to Tyler Grandil, Bruce Watkins, and Julie Shumate for an awesome camp!
Over 225 FFA members gathered at Camp Shadow Pines in Heber, Arizona from June 16-20, 2014. This is a five-day camp in which students participate for fun, friends and learning as a part of FFA’s mission to provide premier leadership, personal success and career development opportunities for students enrolled in Agricultural Education. During the week you have the opportunity to not only build leadership skills but also make friends across the state. Each year students come out of state camp jazzed for the school year and FFA to start.
Arizona FFA State Camp is a wonderful way to make friends with members from across the state and get to know the new Arizona FFA State Officers in a fun, relaxed setting while learning some teamwork skills along the way. Every year State Camp is packed with activities including: relay races where each of the small groups design and build their own car from a refrigerator box and compete in an obstacle course against the other teams;small group activities where groups have the chance to bond with their fellow teammates while building skills for teamwork; a talent show where any camper can showcase their unique abilities; “Late Night,” a comic end to the day and briefing of what’s to come the next; pre-meal challenges where each small group competes for the right to eat first through participating in a whacky event; and leadership workshops presented by the new State Officers on a variety of helpful topics.
This annual event is a great way for students to continue to be active in the FFA while school is out. Camp is a wonderful opportunity for a diverse group of students. Having a wide variety of activities and events makes it possible for the organization to become so diverse.
State camp is partially funded by the special project of the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation. This funding has helped Arizona FFA lower the price to only $230 to make it possible for more students to participate.
