On June 26, 2013 over 7500 HOSA members, advisors, and healthcare professionals from around the nation arrived in Nashville, TN for the 36th National HOSA Leadership Conference. The Gaylord Opryland Resort was the site of 58 competitive events, 62 educational symposiums and networking opportunities for the 287 delegates from Arizona.

AzHOSA has its fourth consecutive national HOSA officer. Joylynn Sears, Yavapai College, was elected to the National HOSA Executive Council as Post-Secondary/Collegiate Board Representative.

Katherine Urrutia, AzHOSA State President, accepted a Membership Increase Award on behalf of the state association. AzHOSA has received a Membership Increase Award for the past eight consecutive years. AzHOSA also helped bring the HOSA Membership Cup back to Region 1. Jenna Wild, UA and Jaclyn Celaya, Rio Rico HS were selected for the Office of the Surgeon General Internship. Hayley Owen received a US Public Health Scholarship.

EVIT received top honors for their chapter’s donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the HOSA National Service Project. Hayley Owen, Past AzHOSA President, was recognized as the Outstanding State Leader. Sharon Black, EVIT and Marie Hardman, Yavapai College were recognized as Outstanding Chapter Advisors. The Barbara James Service Award was presented to three members for their volunteer efforts and received the President’s Gold Volunteer Service Award.

Arizona HOSA – Future Health Professionals mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. AzHOSA currently operates 211 chapters in 147 high schools in Arizona with a membership of over 6,000. AzHOSA is housed and funded in-part by Career and Technical Education Division in the Arizona Department of Education.
