Technical Reading & Performance Literacy
January 27, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
What do you guess is the number 1 desirable skill that the Arizona workforce is looking for in a new employee? Communication skills! This 2-day class will teach you strategies to use with your students that integrate reading, writing, and speaking opportunities into your program.
Day one focuses on literacy, and closely examines the Career and College Readiness Standards (CCRS) Reading Standards. You will determine where they are relevant in your curriculum, examine vocabulary strategies, learn about fluency and Lexile scores, and participate in a close reading lesson.
Day-two focuses on CCRS Writing and Speaking Standards to determine what 11th and 12th grade students have to do utilizing writing and speaking that will make them more employable and career-ready. In addition, you will discover how CTSOs can support this and where in your curriculum you can embed writing and speaking in order to give your students more practice in those skills.
